Is it possible that Pink Floyd’s album really is the second best in the USA?
It depends on what you mean by best I guess. It is rather subjective and what I may consider to be best, then you may think is rubbish and vice versa. If we look purely to facts and figures though, would looking at actual album sales tell us who has the best album?
The best selling album worldwide is Thriller from Michael Jackson with over 110 million sales. This completely overshadows the number 2 which is Back in Black from AC/DC with 45 million sales.
After that the next few look like this:
- Meat Loaf - Bat Out of Hell 43 million
- Eagles - Their Greatest Hits 42 million
- Various Artists - Dirty Dancing 42 million
- Whitney Houston - The Bodyguard 42 million
- Andrew Lloyd Webber - Phantom of the Opera 40 million
- Backstreet Boys - Millennium 40 million
- Bee Gees - Saturday Night Fever 40 million
- Fleetwood Mac - Rumours 40 million
- Pink Floyd - The Dark Side of the Moon 40 million
So, as you can see from these figures, Pink Floyd comes joint 7th along with 4 other albums.
But you can decide for yourself …. is Pink Floyd’s second best album in the US … or is it joint 7th …. or does it come way down your list?
Here’s some great Pink Floyd albums including The Dark Side of the Moon:
