Hmmm. A certain theme is emerging on The Late Show with David Letterman. Earlier this week, Howard Stern went on a tear about how Letterman was “the host we want to watch” in late-night.

Then last night, Julia Roberts said, after a particuarly good Letterman ad-lib, “You are so much funnier than other people who talk at this time of the evening.

Sarah and Todd Palin each individually issued statements slamming Letterman. Todd called the joke as discussing “rape” with his 14 year old daughter.

Sarah Palin says the joke was “sexually perverted” and “disgusting”. She also said Letterman’s joke that she looked like a “slutty flight attendant” as “pretty pathetic”. Letterman in the above response said he thought the flight attendant joke was actually pretty good.

David Letterman apologizes for the bad Palin joke. Under fire for a bad Palin joke last week, David Letterman has apologized to Gov. Sarah Palin and her supporters. But it seems that the group behind firedavidletterman.com urging CBS to fire the late show host are not happy and contented. The group says its still not enough.

On Letterman’s CBS Late Show tonight, Letterman says he’s sorry about a monologue earlier this month in which he joked that New York Yankees star Alex Rodriguez impregnated Palin’s daughter during a game. Letterman has said he intended the joke to be in reference to Palin’s 18-year-old daughter Bristol, but Gov. Palin actually attended the game with her 14-year-old daughter Willow. Some critics have accused Letterman of joking about statutory rape.

He concluded, “I’m sorry about it and I’ll try to do better in the future.”

However, the Los Angeles talk radio host behind the group firedavidletterman.com says Letterman’s apology falls short.
